Ever wondered why so many people are truely, madly, deeply in love with Lugia? Well I sure did and I also wanted to share my reasons for why I am absolutly Lugia CRAZY! So here we have a page with the answer to a question I sent around to various people.
"Could you please tell me in a bit of detail what it is about Lugia that appeals to you? Or what makes you love Lugia?"
Articuno - There is just no other creature in the world that even comes close to the perfection of Lugia. It seems to be made up of some of my most favourite things such as the ocean, sky and birds. Besides all that, what's NOT to like about such a creature?! It's huge, powerful and cute!
Lugia - To me, Lugia is perfect in every way. His physical attributes are perfect, his personality is perfect, and his soul is perfect, or in my eyes at least. To me, he is the ultimate symbol of power, wisdom, knowledge and strength.
Draco - Hmm... since seeing Lugia on a Pokémon 2000 trailer I was amazed at how shiny and beautiful it was. I loved the cry/voice in the movies, it's just really sweet and soothing. also in the games it was a worthy flying type and the only one to use the awesome move Aeroblast.
SilverFox16 - In Pokémon, there's a bazillion different things you can find - there's adorable (Dozens of Pokémon fit this description), intimidating (Most Dark-Types, a few dragons), etc. However, when I tend to think 'freedom', my mind wanders back to Lugia - just one really awesome combination of features. There's the gentle power of birds mixed with the fury of dragons...a force so powerful that it would keep to itself. And that -choice- - instead of being banished to that location, or forced to stay there...reminds me of the generosity. So, Lugia really is an awesome Pokémon.
Draelen - For me I like Lugia for the almost Dragonish appearence, and I do like many forms of creatures for the same reason I like Dragons (I'm not sure) wings, paws etc. and nice and strong.
LugiaChan - It's the BEAST of the sea, its the bird of the sea, the dragon, it's song calms the spirit of others, it has spikes on its back, its my favorite color, it looks sharp, can go much faster than the other birds, has huge wings that are very original, it flies fast, it dodges quickly, it has my favorite attack- aeroblast and it can learn thunder. Uhm, it has kewl bunny-like feet, it doesnt look feathery like the rest do- hence why I think it doesnt have feathers to begin with T_____T;;; it's back tail spikes are kewl, it's gigantic, it talks. XD
MysticHawkven - I only liked him in the first place for his massive power and the fact that he was the Great Guardian, and because he was a legendary pokémon.
Helios - Ever since I first saw him 6 years ago in the movies, I was practially in love with him. For one thing he's the gentle giant of the show, never gets nasty unless he has too. He has soothing voice, that could quell the nightmares of a child. He's majestic, beautiful, and a kick ass pokémon, the silver and blue colors also stand out.
Akari_Cutey - I really like Lugia because it's a brave, noble pokémon that is willing to give everything for the better being of the world. Also, it looks kewl ^^
PoKéHybrid Trainer Jim - I fell in love with the humanistic qualities of Lugia. It is more human in design and it's instincts made it stand out to me. A guardian that will protect it's friends and it's friends with it's life. It's arm and hand-like wings always seemed to push away evil with it's wind, while comforting enough to hold and shield it's loved ones. Such balance of power that other humanistic pokemon like Deoxys and Mewtwo can't compare to it. Many times I have wished to be part Lugia. To harness that protective power.
SilverFlame - Admittedly, at first, it didn't strike me as impressive, much the same as Ho-oh, actually. The first time I truly saw it and started to appreciate the bird itself, was Pokemon 2K (surprised? I'm not) but the stature of that bird just can't be truly matched. Beast of the sea, as they call it, guardian, caretaker, and as you saw in that movie... devastating in a single strike...
But that's just part of it. The frame of that bird just adds to it. Streamlined to nearly no end, the majesty of that bird is a tough thing to match as well, likely only matched by select legendaries - yes, not all of them - but yes... I've had several other events that increased my appreciation for Lugia... some I'd be here all night to explain if I had to do so...
TimeShift - I love birds, I love flying and I love diving. Three facts being united within Lugia, a simply wonderful crature, so noble and sweet. The body is simply perfect at every detail - and so is his character. Being powerful, but mysterious, hidden and almost not reachable. Lugia is both: Beauty and Beast. For me, at least.
DarkFeather - What can you say about Lugia? I suppose this is the chance to write something totally cliche and mushy about my favorite Pokemon. I was fascinated by him before the movie even came out, however, seeing the creature on the big screen totally did it for me. Predictable. From a naturalist's point of view, he has many of the qualities of some of my favorite animals. I've always had a great appreciation for whales, birds, dragons... everything that Lugia seems to be a part of. Like these animals, Lugia commands a certain kind of respect. Lugia is Lugia, I couldn't think of myself as such a creature, nor could I really relate to it. I can only harbor my own understanding of him, and give him my admiration. Lugia's whalish song has to be my most favorite quality, along with his supernatural grace and power. Not to mention, he has the ability to speak telepathicly. How cool is that? If Lugia truely existed, I would probably seek to study and understand him like some dorky Pokemon Researcher. Truth is... its hard to bring into words why I adore this Pokemon so much. The way I show it is by making him the focus of many of my best artworks.
Quanyails - Well, Lugia is a wonderful portmanteau of various beast that intrigue a plethora of peoples: birds, dragons, sea creatures, etc. He (I will refer to Lugia as a 'he', even though he's really genderless) is a creative combination of the grace and beauty of a bird, the strength and awe of a dragon, and the mystique and reticence of an aquatic being. Lugia is the embodiment of a benevolent king, so to speak: he has incredible power, a powerful control over the elements, but sleeps in the depths and only activates it when it is required. When a Lugia becomes corrupted in Pokemon XD, it is said that his heart was locked away and this change could not be reversed. Whether it was the actions of the player or the resistance of Lugia, it goes to show his antithesis is malevolent, heartless, and underneath the exterior, troubled. That gives more appreciation to this magnificent creature than one can see just from his exterior.
Lugia591 - Lugia really appealed to me when I first saw it online...It's combination of many animals and the fact it's a bird(bonus points!!)...also the fact that it guards the oceans and controls air, water, and psycic abilities....making it nearly impossible to control by sheer will...and that he (like Quanyails, I'm referring it as a 'he') seems to be a very...emotional pokemon....the mystery of really finding out what Lugia actually is is very appealing too.
Sweekun - Lugia appeals to me because he doesn't have that typical 'bird' look. Just about every other bird type pokémon in the game have distingished beaks, feathers, & claws. With Lugia, all that stuff has just kind of 'faded out' to reveil a beautiful, silvery white creature...plus it's totally unique. There are no other pokémon that look close to being Lugia. Then XD:GoD came out, & I completely & totally fell in love with Lugia.
Feather - I've been a fan of birds my whole life. I fell in love with Lugia on first sight... It was mostly its looks that made me attracted at first. When I caught Lugia on Pokemon Gold (Caught it on my birthday! Either on my 9th or 10th birthday.) I instantly started training it and slowly becoming a bigger fan. Weeks later and bought the movie. I became completely obsessed. When watching the movie I saw how powerful and awesome Lugia was, so I became even more addicted. Lugia was the only thing I ever drew (I still draw nothing but Lugia now!) and I always would pretend to be a Lugia. Ever since, I've been a big Lugia fan.
Xelig00n - Well, i don't really know... when i first saw the movie i instantly loved the design, power and sheer awesomeness on display. Then it sorta faded out until april 08 or something searching randomly for Pokemon, and suddenly had a second time getting addicted. I don't know why, but everything about Lugia is awesome.
Skylands - Lugia appeals to me in a way the others fail to do so; truly a magnificent being. Lugia's design is reminiscent of birds yet not bird-like at all, and its rising in Pokemon 2000 (emerging from a waterspout and rotating as the water dissipates), including its cry, was absolutely beautiful. And it can speak human in the movie, let's see Ho-Oh do that.
Light_Latios - Lugia stands out when compared to mostly all the other Pokemon in my mind. Its song is very eerie and haunting, but I love it. Its entrance in Pokemon 2000 was spectacular and memorable. I think its the "crown jewel" in what I consider to be the best generation of Pokemon games (G/S/C).
Lyon - I reckon Lugia is awsome because the way he swims, flys even walks! Lugia has some resemblence (although rather difficult to see) to water dragons, that is why I love him so! When looking at his silhouette on Pokemon Silver, he reminds me more of a dragon than any other Pokemon. Lugia...You're awesome!
Freshar80 - Lugia is very graceful and seems to be very clever full stop, never mind just for a bird or an animal. It can soar and look graceful no matter what (even in the bad episodes!). It's actually very hard to put into words. It's just... brilliant in it's own way.
Pwnanator - In my eyes, Lugia has always been the sign of benevolence, piece and power. They keep the piece no matter how big, nor how small the trouble is and they do it with such elegance and grace that it's nearly impossible not to acknowledge them for their amazing beauty. That and how can you not love such a cuddly fluffy birdy X3
Altair - I've been Lugia-obesessed since I received my Gold version and caught him. He IMO is sorta like a demi-god (I mean, come on, he controls the friggin' oceans, how cool is that?!) He also is a sign of peace, an icon in my eyes. What he stands for should be looked upon as something to be desired, even though he is a Pokemon (:C). His power is unmatched, but yet he keeps it to himself and never desires to pick a fight. In every way he is perfect, yet he still remains humble and doesn't bother anyone. Even his theme song and cry are perfect. That and he's just absolutely beautiful!
Lugia-mewshiny - I don't know why I like Lugia so much really. I just like Lugia ALOT!
